What should I expect out of my first counseling session?
During the first session we will spend some time getting to know each other. You will be asked to complete initial paperwork and I will gather information about you, your history, and your reasons for seeking counseling. We will talk about what you hope to gain from counseling and what type of style works best for you. This will be a good time for you to ask questions about me, my background, and what experience I have helping others through similar problems that you are experiencing. If you are interested in scheduling another appointment, we can discuss what days and times work best for you.
How often should I expect to be in counseling and how often do I need to schedule appointments?
Counseling is different for everyone. The severity of your symptoms or the situation that brought you to counseling will help determine how long your time in counseling will be. Typically, to start, clients attend sessions weekly. As you start to notice your symptoms or situation improving, sessions typically move to every other week, every three weeks, or monthly. Some people will then schedule maintenance sessions and will come in as needed.
What type of office setting are you located in?
My office is located at the Falmouth Counseling and Wellness Center. The office suite is shared with two other counselors, a physical therapist, as well as two other medical professionals. Stefani has been told that her office is comfortable and inviting, providing a welcoming atmosphere to everyone that visits.

If I am a teenager, will my caregiver need to come in to my counseling session with me?
Teenagers are given more privacy and independence when participating in counseling. Unless a teenager is at risk in some way, the information they share in counseling is confidential. If I think sharing information with a parent is essential in helping the teenager improve their symptoms, I will explore this with them before doing so. If they agree to have the caregiver participate in session, the caregiver will be included. If the teenager does not agree to this, I will help the teen identify the best way for him or her to share this information with their caregiver.
